[Challenges] Interview with Mr. Walmax, a Swedish who drowns in Aso and Minamioguni

― Why is Kyushu a candidate for employment?

When I lived in Kyoto, I traveled around Kyushu on a backpack trip, so I went from Hiroshima to Kagoshima by regular train.
If you look outside while shaking on a regular train, there are mountains, valleys and small villages, rivers flowing, and such scenery is really nice.
I wanted to live somewhere like this, so when I got a chance (for migrating to Minamioguni), I thought, “Oh!

― What is the connection with “Minami Oguni”?

My friend's sister in Kyoto helped me find a job in Sweden. When I was working in Japan, I was looking for someone who could do an inbound tour guide in Minamioguni together. I was invited to go. I immediately visited the next day.

― That's the work you're working for in SMO Minamioguni Co., Ltd ..

Yes.
Usually, English conversation teachers are common as foreign employment, but I originally majored in welfare and wanted to do work related to people's lives.
From my backpack travel experience, I felt that I wanted to live in the countryside of Kyushu, so when I actually went to Minamioguni and looked around the town, all the life and work I wanted was It was ready.

― Max's “What you want to do” and the Minamioguni side “What you want to do” match! Surely it might be fate ...

Yes!
After returning home and preparing, I came to Minamioguni-machi with my wish for 12 last year.

I really love Aso as a whole, and I think it's really amazing every day.

- I understand! ! ! (I am also an immigrant)

In spite of such a great place, I was really surprised that it was hardly known in Japan.

― How about sightseeing in Aso and Minamioguni from the perspective of a foreigner?

The location and people are really amazing! However, there is almost no information for foreigners, even if there is any.
It's hard to move without a rental car.
I think there are still a lot of ideas that can be devised.

― Max is making a tour plan.

There are various forms of tours, but it is not just going around famous tourist spots and the guide speaks unilaterally, so that the guide and customers are like friends and can tell the deeper and bigger story of Aso I want to make a nice tour. I say “Responsible Tourism”, but I want to do it with a concept that can contribute and return to the local community.

― It is an era when the shape of tourism is changing.

In today's world, there are a lot of technologies and ways of life that are going to be destroyed. That is what Aso's potential should be like to be recognized by the world as a “representative of sustainable living”. We keep that in mind when creating tours.
Especially if you are going to Aso or Minami Oguni, you want to know not only the beautiful parts of the surface but also the daily life and history of the Japanese people.
For example, Aso is rich in water, and it is connected to a volcano, which is why agriculture is thriving.
Because there is water, there are agriculture and various livelihoods of Aso.
I would like to convey the history, how it relates to nature, and the deep connection between Aso's nature, history and people's lives.

In particular, I love Tateiwa water source, so I definitely want to do something there!

― Are you planning a tour to experience life?

The scenery of Aso and Minamioguni is very unique, and there are a lot of rice fields and fields that have a very nice atmosphere when viewed from the grasslands that spread out from the mountains, especially from me of Westerners.

But the grasslands, cedar forests, and rural areas are all in human hands.
It is kept clean because people are putting their hands.
Around this “life of nature”, you can enjoy the scenery and scent changes with your bicycle.
On the way, I would like to take a tour where I can experience things like staying at a farmer and experiencing harvesting, making (food) together and eating together.
