[Challenges] Interview with Mr. Walmax, a Swedish who drowns in Aso and Minamioguni

― Mr. Max has the impression that the connection with the local “people” is very important. How do you find a particularly impressive “human” in Minamioguni?

Haruko was drowning at a glance. Lol

― What is Haruko-san (small restaurant in Minamioguni)?

That's right! Haruko has an impact. Lol
I met Haruko for the first time on the night when I first saw the Southern Oguni and decided to eat in the boat before returning home.

Those who are waiting for customers but who can't speak English usually look like “foreigners”, but Haruko has no barriers.
From the beginning, "Gaijin-san, Gaijin-san!" Lol

I don't like katakana and I can't remember the name "Max". When writing in katakana, "Matsukus?" Lol
I think I remember it now. Lol

And when I was asked, “What's the alternative to rice?” I said “just a little” but a lot of rice came out. Lol

When you say that the strawberry in the salad is “delicious!”, Bring a huge box of strawberries from the kitchen and say “Yes! Lol

That kind of kindness, overflowing “hospitality” was warm, fresh and happy.

Even now, Haruko is healed.
If you go over there, you will feel relieved.

― Did you come to Minamioguni and realize your ideal “country life”?

Yes!
Growing vegetables in the field, keeping cats, drinking with grandparents at a local tavern, and more! It's blissful to drink a bottle kept with tempura of Maitake.

― What a fun way to enjoy ...! Lol

There was a time when I couldn't eat tempura because I hadn't shipped for about 2 months, and my physical condition really got worse, and it was quite mentally damaging. Lol

-Maitake addiction. Lol

In fact, I hated mushrooms before coming here. Lol
I never ate it.

- e~? ! Lol

But when you come to Minamioguni (where mushroom production is thriving), you can say that you can't eat mushrooms. But the mushrooms here were really delicious and could be eaten sometime!
Now I ’m a mushroom-loving person. Lol

-You didn't like food that you don't like because of people's connections!

-Finally, what do you want to challenge in the future?

I want to make a picture book of Minamioguni by myself.
I like to draw, so I want to draw more.
I want to make a picture of daily life, nature and scenery.

I don't have much time to draw, but I'd like to draw in the morning with a sketchbook and pen and draw a coffee while drinking coffee.

-You draw pictures too! It's versatile ...!

I had a lot of interest, and during college I studied welfare, the environment, and social issues.
I think that my current work has a perspective from that field, and because I am a foreigner / western, I think that I can connect “foreigners” and “local people”, not just connect. I would like to connect everything while communicating the deep local values and culture.

-It seems that Max's tour will be a trip that will trigger something if you participate.

In the future, I would like to do something like a guest house and make it an information hub about Aso, especially for foreigners.
If you stay there, you can get all the information you need, and then you can go on a tour or have a cafe where you can interact.
Of course we do fields, so we harvest vegetables in the fields and cook together.
I hope I can do that.

-It seems to be a wonderful place where you can connect and communicate with foreigners, local people, culture, and lifestyles, because you are Max who loves Japan and Aso.

― Thank you, Max!

Max, who has been in Minamioguni-machi but hasn't passed 1 years yet, has a fairly wide face.
When I first came, I hoped to stand at the cash register every day in the town's product center “Kiyora Kasa” to talk to the shippers and actually go to the production site. It seems that he has always been involved in various events and core gatherings in the area, and has gradually built up relationships with local people by accumulating exchanges with local people.
There must have been nothing more than fun.

Still, I can answer “I love Aso!” With a smile because I have the passion and core strength to love Satoyama from the bottom of my heart, to convey its charm and value to many people.

I would like more people to enjoy the way of living and working in Minami-Oguni that only Max can do, and only Max can send to the world!
